Adnan Kanchwala – Rising Clerking Stars: Career Inspiration and Advice from the Next Generation

Following A-Level Results Day last week, we’re continuing our series shining a spotlight on some of the future stars of the clerking world 🌟

Through this series, we want to showcase the different routes people take into clerking, what draws them to the profession and the skills and experiences that can help you build a successful career within chambers.

Next up: Adnan Kanchwala, Junior Clerk at 8 New Square Chambers.

After graduating from the University of Nottingham with an LLB (Hons) in Law, Adnan was looking for a role within the legal industry where he could combine his interest in law with one of his biggest strengths – working with people and building relationships.

Clerking immediately appealed to him. He liked the idea of being part of an in-person, close-knit chambers team, helping people, building relationships and working in an environment where no two days would necessarily look the same.

What’s your favourite thing about being a junior clerk, and why would you recommend clerking as a career?

My favourite thing about being a junior clerk is having the chance to solve problems in a constantly changing environment. It is rewarding to be able to apply different skills to vastly different situations. For example, the time-pressured problems that arise the morning of a busy trial are much different to the task of dealing with a diary clash. 

Therefore, I would recommend clerking as a career because it allows you to develop a wider skillset as you are exposed to a variety of challenges, but also to a variety of personalities, that require something different from you.
