About the Role:

Reporting to the Senior Clerk, the Junior Clerk is responsible for supporting the clerking team in providing a professional and efficient clerking service.

Key Responsibilities

Clerking:

Ensuring the provision of a professional and efficient clerking service, including:

  • Diary management, arrangement of meetings and court listings
  • Processing enquiries about the experience and availability of Members
  • Ensuring all opportunities are accurately recorded on the case management system (LEX) and actioned accordingly
  • Accompanying Members to and from court with papers and books as required
  • Delivering documents to court and other parties for exchange
  • Lodging court documents
  • Chasing briefs
  • Downloading and sharing papers with Members
  • Printing bundles and paperwork for Members and Solicitors
  • Assisting the Clerks with all aspects of clerking
  • Scanning cheques and receipts, forwarding to Members and Fees Clerk

Assisting with emails received to the clerking@ inbox in an efficient and timely manner

Answering the phone, dealing with enquiries or forwarding as necessary

General:

  • Dealing with incoming and outgoing post
  • Carrying out daily checks to ensure photocopiers and printers are in working order and fully stocked with ink and paper, replenishing and reordering as necessary
  • Carrying out daily checks to ensure the kitchens, conference rooms and stationery cupboards are fully stocked, replenishing and reordering as necessary
  • Liaising with the Landlord regarding repairs and access for visitors
  • Moving papers, deliveries and documents around Chambers, ensuring areas are kept tidy and clear
  • Moving full bags of shredded paper down to the basement and arranging for collection with the waste management company
  • Deputising for the Practice Assistant Managers in their absence as and when agreed with the Senior Practice Manager and/or Practice Manager
  • Attending weekly team meetings to share updates, address challenges, and identify opportunities
  • Representing Chambers at conferences, seminars, networking events and client meetings
  • Assisting the Marketing team with the physical setting up of and running events for Chambers
  • Maintaining good working relationships with Members and staff, court staff and staff and barristers in other chambers
  • Ensuring compliance with Chambers policies and procedures, suggesting improvements as and when appropriate
  • Ad hoc administrative tasks
