Chambers are seeking a Practice Manager with a minimum of eight years clerking experience, currently working at either Practice Manager or Assistant Practice Manager level, who can demonstrate they have the competencies for this role.
The Practice Manager is responsible to the Practice Directors for duties including:
Practice and Diary Management
- Dealing with professional enquiries about the experience and availability of Members of Chambers to assist with the provision of legal advice and advocacy.
- General diary management for Members of Chambers including the booking in of appointments, checking of details for future appointments, and ensuring any paperwork deadlines are noted.
- Overseeing and, when required, attending listing appointments.
- Assisting the Practice Directors with diary management and fee negotiation.
- Supervising, directing generally and mentoring the Assistant Practice Managers. Delegating work as appropriate.
- Assisting with the entering of incoming papers, and (in liaison with the other practice managers) overseeing the management of the Chambers central Papers inbox.
- Assisting all other members of the Staff Team to provide an excellent standard of service to members and their professional clients.
- Ability to maintain good communications and provide appropriate support and cover in the event of the absence of colleagues for whatever reason.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues, members of Chambers, clients, officers of the Court and colleagues in other Chambers.
Practice Development
- Ability to develop a good knowledge of members practices, and Chambers practice areas and highlight any opportunities accordingly.
- Assisting with Practice Development meetings and other ad hoc meetings as appropriate including but not limited to preparation, attendance and any follow up actions.
- Attending Chambers Practice Group meetings, as required and assisting with any follow up actions in liaison with colleagues.
- Attending marketing and business development activities and representing Chambers in a professional and responsible manner.
- Participating in other internal working groups, where required.
Fees and Billing
- Assisting with billing fees from the Lex time recording system in a timely manner
- Sending fee notes and invoices promptly, as required.
- Chasing any fees for members of chambers, as appropriate and liaising with colleagues regarding this subject.
- Agreeing fees for all junior members, and Silks where required, in liaison with the Practice Directors.
Skills and Experience required:
Essential
- Ability to problem solve essential.
- Ability to draft well-worded communications essential.
Desirable
- Minimum 8 years experience.
- Direct Access trained.
- Experience of Lex case management system.
- Experience of Legal aid billing.
- Experience of working with CFAs.
- Experience of/ ability to lead, mentor, supervise and encourage more junior colleagues.
